The Super Eagles from Nigeria will face the Wasps from Rwanda on the second matchday of the Afcon 2025 qualifiers on Tuesday in Kigali, the capital of Rwanda.

This was the second game for coach Austin Eguaveon, who returned for the fourth time as coach of the Super Eagles after beating Benin Republic 3-0 against Uyo and Akwa Ibom State last Saturday.

But football professionals and even the Super Eagles players know that this encounter will not be easy.

Rwanda is not a major football nation in Africa, but its new coach Torsten Spittler has reportedly not been able to offer the team any new signings since taking over in November last year.

Spittler has lost just one game in the eight matches Rwanda has played, winning three and drawing four, including a 1-1 draw with Libya in the first match of the qualifying series against Tripoli.

Nigeria – Rwanda, direct comparison

This is the sixth time Nigeria and Rwanda have met. Of these five encounters, Nigeria has won two and drawn three.

In their current form, Nigeria have lost two, drawn one and won one of their last four games.

On the other hand, Rwanda has won two, drawn one and lost one of its last four games.

Nigeria currently tops Group D for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, having picked up three points by beating the Republic of Benin. Rwanda and Libya each have one point and Benin has zero.

Players in focus

Balon D'Or nominee Ademola Lookman lived up to expectations by scoring two goals against Benin.

The Atalanta man will surely give the Rwandan defense another tough time on Tuesday.

In addition, Victor Osimhen, who has never played a competitive match due to his transfer history with Napoli, came on as a substitute against Benin and scored a goal and will be a player to watch if he starts today.
