Preview: Oman vs South Korea – Prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Oman's Asian World Cup qualifier clash with South Korea on Tuesday, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Oman And South Korea will both be hoping for their first win in the third round of AFC qualification for the 2026 championship World Cup when they meet on Tuesday.

South Korea started their Group B campaign with a goalless draw against Palestine, while Oman suffered a 1-0 defeat against Iraq. Aymen Hussein and scored the only goal of the competition.

Oman have never participated in a World Cup finals but have completed their best qualifying campaign to date for the 2022 competition, winning 10 of their 18 matches.

However, Oman failed to win their Group B match and suffered a 1-0 defeat to Iraq after a goal from Aymen Hussein, leaving the home team under pressure to get a positive result in this match.

Oman have played South Korea six times and lost five of those matches, with their only victory coming in October 2003 at the Asian Cup.

South Korea has participated in eleven World Cup finals, including the last six. The country's best ever result was in 2002, when it finished fourth.

In 2022, the national team reached the round of 16, but lost 4-1 to Brazil, and expects to reach the final of the 2026 competition.

Hong Myung-boPalestine were held to a goalless draw in their first Group B match, but prior to this encounter they had won three games in a row, including a 7-0 victory over Singapore.

South Korea finished first in Group C in the second qualifying round, picking up 16 points from six games thanks to a record of five wins and one draw.

Myung-bo, who played 137 times for South Korea during his active career, takes charge of the national team for the second time after already being at the helm between 2013 and 2014.

Oman will be without the services of Arshad Al-Alawi for Tuesday's match after the midfielder was sent off in his team's last game, a 1-0 loss against Iraq.

However, no injury problems have been reported, so almost the same eleven is expected for this game. Zahir Al Aghbari possibly the only introduction.

As for South Korea, the legendary Son Heung-min will once again lead the team as captain and the Tottenham Hotspur attacker prepares to represent his country for the 129th time.

Joo Min-Kyu He featured in the final third of the pitch against Palestine and is expected to keep his place for this game as well, with the 34-year-old hoping to add more to his only international goal.

Bayern Munich Kim Min-jae will also be a notable addition to the defense for South Korea, while Feyenoord’s Hwang In-beom should be used in the middle midfield.
