A few days after the shooting in Georgia, a shooting is reported at a high school in Nebraska

OMAHA, Nebraska (WBTV) – Nebraska police responded to a shooting at Omaha High School on Tuesday, just days after four people were killed in a shooting at a Georgia school.

At least one person was shot at Northwest High School in Omaha, Nebraska, on Tuesday, September 10, our partner WOWT reported Tuesday afternoon. The victim is believed to be a 15-year-old.

The 15-year-old was initially in critical condition. The suspected shooter, presumably a student, was reportedly in custody.

Officials said a school security guard reported the shooting to police at 12:23 p.m. The suspected shooter was taken into custody at 12:58 p.m.

According to the school district, the school was placed on lockdown at 12:30 p.m. That lockdown was lifted at 1:30 p.m. and students were allowed to be released room by room, officials said.

According to the authorities, the shooting was apparently an isolated incident between two students. Further circumstances surrounding the shooting were not initially known.

Tuesday's shooting came less than a week after two students and two teachers – Christian Angulo, Mason Schermerhorn, Cristina Irimie and Richard Aspinwall – were killed at Apalachee High School in Georgia on Sept. 4. Several other people were injured in the shooting.

Since last week, there have been false reports of school shootings across the country, including here in North Carolina. It is common for the number of threats in schools to increase after a shooting in the United States.

During the night of Monday, September 9, and into Tuesday morning, numerous threats were posted online targeting schools in the Charlotte area. So far, an 11-year-old and a 12-year-old have been arrested in connection with the threats.

In Georgia, too, there were numerous threats against schools following the shooting at Apalachee High School. At least three people under the age of 18 have been charged in Georgia, our sister station reports.
