Mets take steps at the right time

The New York Mets are the best team in Major League Baseball, having won ten of their last eleven games through Tuesday.

Not only are the Mets in red-hot form, but they now have a one-game lead over the Atlanta Braves for the third and final wildcard spot.

Not many people thought the Mets would enter 2024 in this position after trading away several stars at the trade deadline last year. Starting pitcher Kodi Sanga was out for most of the regular season and new president David Stern came in and put his own stamp on things.

Many people think they are planning for the future and looking to 2025, but that is not the case.

They were led by MVP candidate Francisco Landor.

They started pitching, grew together and performed great things in the moments that mattered, putting themselves in a position to take control of their destiny.

To make it to the postseason, the Mets must earn that win in the final two weeks of the season.

There are still six games left against the Philadelphia Phillies, three games against the Milwaukee Brewers and a final three-way duel against the Braves in Atlanta.

But the Mets started playing great baseball at the right time.

And in September, sometimes that's all that matters.
