Will Travis Kelce attend the VMAs with Taylor Swift? What you should know

Sorry, Swifties, but the prospects for Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce appearing together on the red carpet for the first time at the MTV Video Music Awards on Wednesday are bleak.

After a whirlwind weekend in New York City that included dinner, a wedding at Electric Lady Studios and the US Open men's tournament, Kelce is back in Kansas City for training, film sessions and meetings.

Kelce will have a full day of practice on Wednesday and Thursday before the Chiefs face the Cincinnati Bengals, one of the NFL team's bigger rivals, on Sunday.

A little backstory for the new football fans: The Ohio team renamed Arrowhead Stadium “Burrowhead” Stadium in January 2023 because the joke was that their quarterback Joe Burrow didn't lose in Kansas City. The taunt took place before the AFC title game. Kelce addressed “Burrowhead” on his podcast “New Heights,” telling his brother, “They're throwing out a lot of bulletin board material there.”

The Chiefs had the last laugh, beating the Bengals 23-20 and advancing to the 57th Super Bowl, where they faced the Philadelphia Eagles.

But let's imagine how Kelce would make it from Arrowhead Stadium to UBS Arena in time to walk Swift down the VMAs red carpet. Kelce would have to leave at 3 p.m. CT, and everything would have to go perfectly for him to make it to the end of the red carpet before the show began.

From practice to Charles B. Wheeler Downtown Airport, it would take him about 20 minutes. A private flight from Kansas City, Missouri, to New York City takes about three hours, depending on various factors such as weather, traffic and taxi times. JFK Airport is the closest to UBS Arena. If his flight landed at 7 p.m. ET, he would be a 15-20 minute drive from the MTV Awards show.

The VMAs red carpet will be available from 5 p.m. ET (one hour before Kansas City) until shortly before the awards show begins. The broadcast will run from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. ET. Swift typically walks the red carpet at the end of the time slot to take photos before heading into the arena.

The above scenario doesn't take into account the logistics of getting Kelce home by 2 a.m. CT so he can be at practice on Thursday (again, that's if everything goes perfectly and he leaves at the end of the broadcast).

Swift will likely be in attendance and has 12 awards in the running. She could make history as the first female artist to win Video of the Year five times and as the solo artist with the most Moon Men statues. Beyoncé currently holds the solo record with 25 awards.
