“There must be more transparency”

Ahead of the ABC News presidential debate, college students in Wisconsin are calling on Kamala Harris to be “more honest” with the American people about her plans and policies if she is elected president in November.

Fox News Digital spoke to voters at Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, about what they think about the vice president's 2024 campaign and how they think she would lead the country compared to President Biden.

“I think there's a lot of optimism about what she can bring to the country,” said a student named Dylan, but added that the vice president needs to give more interviews, including about “what exactly her record is.”

Dylan also encouraged the Vice President to do more public outreach.

“I think we are more honest with the American people when we go out and do interviews and not just speak scripted at rallies, but actually go out and talk to the American people,” Dylan said.

Comparing a possible Harris presidency with Biden's, Dylan said: “I don't know if there will necessarily be a big difference. But I think there needs to be more transparency with the American people.”

Sheridan, another student, added: “I feel like she doesn't really have a political stance on a lot of things. She's just trying to come across as a friendly candidate to everyone in order to reach people.”

In addition, Antonio said he had not heard enough from Harris on several issues.

“I haven't really heard much about education, housing and a lot of the other crises that are going on in America,” he said. “So I guess I'm just waiting to see what else she has to say, because I haven't really heard much else.”

Antionio added that he felt Harris was focused on winning the women's vote, but added that she needed to “expand her fan base.”

“America is not just women,” he said.

“What I saw in the different media was all I heard was abortion and women's rights and stuff like that,” Antonio added. “I stand for it and all that stuff, that's cool too… But where do I come in? I just want to know where I stand, honestly.”

However, Taylor, another student, said she could see positive impacts on women's health rights if Harris were elected.

“I think there would definitely be a lot of changes in women's health rights, which is a pretty important issue for me just because I'm a growing teenager. I think that would really help a lot of people in America,” she said.

Student Giacomo explained what it would take for Harris to win his vote.

“Be a peace candidate, not a war candidate … and then get tough on immigration,” he said. “That would get me my vote.”

According to a recent CNN poll, Harris is ahead of Trump in Wisconsin by 50 percent to 44 percent. The winner of the general election has won Wisconsin every time since 2008, making the state one of the frontrunners in recent times.

According to a national poll ahead of the debate, Trump received the support of 48 percent of likely voters, compared to 47 percent who supported Harris, according to the latest results from the New York Times/Siena poll published on Sunday.

The results are essentially identical to the last New York Times/Siena poll, which asked voters their preferences after President Biden dropped out of the race in late July. That poll also showed Trump leading 48-47.
