Weather warning: Heavy rains are expected in Delhi and parts of northern and central India for the next 4 days

Parts of central and northern India are expected to experience heavy rains with thunderstorms over the next few days due to a low pressure system that has formed over the Bay of Bengal and is currently over Chhattisgarh. On Tuesday, the capital Delhi woke up to rain and cloudy skies due to this weather disturbance.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast further rainfall across Delhi, eastern Haryana, western Uttar Pradesh (UP), Uttarakhand and northern Madhya Pradesh (MP) during the period September 11-14.

The low pressure area over Chhattisgarh is expected to move through western Uttar Pradesh towards Uttarakhand and is expected to bring spells of heavy rains to these areas, the meteorological department said.

Meanwhile, a cyclonic circulation over Gujarat is expected to bring heavy to extremely heavy rainfall in regions like western Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Konkan and Goa and coastal areas of Maharashtra and Gujarat, the IMD added.

Light to moderate rain is also forecast in coastal districts of Karnataka, Kerala and Lakshadweep, with isolated rainfall during the week in coastal districts of Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.
