England vs Australia live on Sky Sports: Fixtures, squads and team news ahead of three T20 internationals and five ODIs | Cricket News

The Aussies are back in England for the first time since the headline-making Ashes series last summer.

You know, the game where Jonny Bairstow was controversially dismissed, Stuart Broad told Alex Carey that the moment was the only thing anyone would remember forever, MCC members clashed with Australian players in Lord's Long Room and rain dashed England's hopes of recovering the precious urn.

We can't promise that the three T20 internationals and five One-Day Internationals in September will be as dramatic, but it's always exciting when England play Australia, whatever the format.

Who is in England’s squad?

Captain of the English national team Jos Buttler will miss at least the T20 series due to a calf injury – his participation in the ODIs is also questionable – so Phil Salt will represent the captain in the shortest format.

Brendon McCullum is “very confident” about Jos Buttler's position as white-ball captain and wants him to enjoy playing for England again

Warwickshire Jacob Bethella left-handed batsman who bowls spin, Essex batsman Jordan Cox and Surrey all-rounder Jamie Overton will all make their T20I debut in the first match of the series at the Ageas Bowl on Wednesday.

Left-arm seamer from Leicestershire Josh Hull can also play white-ball cricket for his country for the first time after being given a Test debut against Sri Lanka at the Kia Oval last week, while Hampshire’s fast bowler John Turner and the uncapped Daniel Mousley – another left-handed spin bowler from Warwickshire – are also included.

England faces Australia in the first T20I: Phil Salt (Lancashire, captain), Will Jacks (Surrey), Jordan Cox (Essex), Liam Livingstone (Lancashire), Jacob Bethell (Warwickshire), Sam Curran (Surrey), Jamie Overton (Surrey), Jofra Archer (Sussex), Adil Rashid (Yorkshire), Saqib Mahmood (Lancashire), Reece Topley Essex).

Also in the T20 squad: Brydon Carse (Durham), Josh Hull (Leicestershire), Dan Mousley (Warwickshire).

Gus Atkinson has impressed for England in Test cricket this summer, particularly at Lord's

England's ODI squad will be strengthened by the arrival of Test players: batters Harry Brook, Ben Duckett and Jamie Smith and bowlers Olly Stone and Matthew Potts will join the group after the conclusion of the Sri Lanka series in south London.

Stone was not originally part of the ODI group but has since been substituted for Gus Atkinson after the Surrey seamer played all six of England's Test matches this summer and took a break.

Atkinson made his Test debut in the first Test against West Indies at Lord's and took 34 wickets over the summer at an average of 20.17. Stone appeared in the last two Tests against Sri Lanka and took seven wickets at an average of 29.42 per wicket.

Brook seems to be the most likely candidate for the captaincy if Buttler also misses the 50-over games.

England’s ODI squad: Jos Buttler (Captain, Lancashire), Jofra Archer (Sussex), Jacob Bethell (Warwickshire), Harry Brook (Yorkshire), Brydon Carse (Durham), Jordan Cox (Essex), Ben Duckett (Nottinghamshire), Josh Hull (Leicestershire), Will Jacks (Surrey), Matthew Potts (Durham), Adil Rashid (Yorkshire), Phil Salt (Lancashire), Jamie Smith (Surrey), Olly Stone (Nottinghamshire), Reece Topley (Surrey), John Turner (Hampshire).

Bairstow and Moeen Ali were dropped from both teams, with the latter later retiring from international cricket.

What about the Australian teams?

Pat Cummins has been rested for both series, so T20 captain Mitchell Marsh will also lead the 50-over side, while David Warner will not play for Australia as the opening batsman has retired from international cricket after this year's T20 World Cup in the Caribbean and the USA.

Warner's place in the T20 group has been taken by the hard-hitting Jake Fraser-McGurk, and that group also includes spin-bowling all-rounder Cooper Connolly, who has yet to play an international match.

The aforementioned Carey is in Australia's ODI squad and could therefore get an, er, interesting reaction from the English crowd when he plays in the 50-over series that begins at Trent Bridge on September 19 and ends at Bristol on September 29.
