Chappell Roan brought a sword to the VMAs red carpet

Give Carly Rae Jepsen a sword? She already has one. Now it's Chappell's turn! Chappell Roan showed up at the 2024 Video Music Awards with her loin belt strapped on and her sword drawn. She even brought her own rug. Roan showed up on the red carpet with a sword, a Viking companion, a matching rug, and no patience for nonsense. A photographer yelled “Shut up!” at someone in the photo line. Could have been another photographer, or a publicist, or Roan herself. Roan immediately clapped back and yelled “You shut up!” and then “No. Not me, bitch,” when the man tried to answer.

Chappell Roan has had a rough month dealing with her new mega-fame. In a recent Rolling Stone In the cover story, she said she had acquired a stalker. She said she was ambushed at the airport by fans who found out her flight details and even kissed her without her consent in August. The hubbub has led Roan to hire security (which she found “so lame”) and set boundaries with her fans. With that in mind, the martial vibe of her VMAs outfit makes perfect sense. For Chappell Roan, being in the public eye in 2024 feels like a struggle.
