Sabrina Carpenter wears a sparkling dress previously worn by Madonna at the 2024 MTV VMAs

Sabrina Carpenter hit the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards red carpet on Sept. 11 in her signature glamour—and a very familiar dress! The 25-year-old “Espresso” singer, who is nominated for six awards at this year's show, pulled out all the stops for her look, pulling out a dress from the archives.

Carpenter wore a sparkling vintage Bob Mackie gown that Madonna wore to the Oscars in 1991. The gorgeous white dress with a sweetheart neckline was embellished with silver pearls at the top, which perfectly showcased her delicate necklace. Her stunning blonde hair was styled in voluminous curls, giving her Madonna vibes while also being a little reminiscent of Marilyn Monroe.

At the awards ceremony, which takes place at the UBS Arena in New York, Carpenter is nominated for artist of the year, song of the year (for “Espresso”), best pop, best direction (for “Please Please Please”), best editing (for “Espresso”) and best art direction (for “Please Please Please”). Carpenter will also perform at the show.

Taylor Swift leads with 10 nominations at this year's ceremony, closely followed by Post Malone with nine.

At the 2023 ceremony, where Carpenter performed during the pre-show, she walked the pink carpet in an ethereal custom-made Vera Wang Haute tulle-draped gown and a crystal-embellished corset.

She wore her blonde hair combed back from her face, with a few strands loose, along with some jewels and great metallic shoes.

Carpenter is currently at the peak of her career. She has just released her latest album Short and sweet in August, where fans can find her VMAs-nominated songs. In an interview with Apple Music's Zane Lowe in August, she said the album's title doesn't just refer to her height.

“I called it Short and sweet for several reasons. It wasn't because I'm short,” Carpenter said. “I thought about some of those relationships and how some of them were the shortest I've ever had and they had the biggest impact on me.”

Some of those closest to Carpenter have publicly hyped the album, including her once-in-love boyfriend Barry Keoghan, who praised it on Instagram in August, and her best friend Joey King.

King told PEOPLE during New York Fashion Week that “Don't Smile” is actually just “perfect,” but that she offers a different song as her favorite every day.
