Teenager on dirt bike dies after accident with dump truck in Westport

According to Westport police, an 18-year-old died after an accident on Old Hill Road.

According to police, the teenager, identified as Max Harper, was traveling in the southbound lane of Old Hill Road when his dirt bike collided with a fully loaded dump truck traveling in the northbound lane around 3:19 p.m. Wednesday.

According to school officials, Harper was a senior at Staples High School.

A statement from the school inspector said that school would start two hours later and games scheduled for Thursday would be cancelled.

According to authorities, the driver of the dump truck left the road, struck several trees and rolled on its side while trying to avoid a collision with the teenager.

The truck driver was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

The road between Patrick Road and Broadview Road was temporarily closed during an investigation.
