Blue Jays pitcher Bowden Francis loses another no-hit attempt with a leadoff home run in the 9th.

TORONTO (AP) — Blue Jays right-hander Bowden Francis has lost a no-hit attempt with a leadoff home run in the ninth inning for the second time in four starts.

Francisco Lindor finished off an 0-2 fastball on Wednesday and sent it clearly over the right outfield wall to give the New York Mets their first hit and tie the score at 1-1.

Francis was immediately taken out of the game and received warm applause from the 29,399 spectators in Toronto. The right-hander managed one walk, one strikeout and hit a batter twice with a pitch. He threw 111 pitches, 68 of which were strikes.

Francis also managed a no-hitter until the ninth against the Los Angeles Angels on August 24 before Taylor Ward opened the first inning with a home run.

Dave Stieb threw the only no-hitter in Blue Jays history on September 2, 1990 in Cleveland.

New York’s Harrison Bader opened the sixth inning with a drive to deep left field against Francis, but Toronto’s Davis Schneider made a great catch on the wall.

Lindor then hit a line drive to Vladimir Guerrero Jr. at first base.

Guerrero also caught a soft linebacker from Jose Iglesias in the fourth inning and Brandon Nimmo hit a hard linebacker to right field in the fifth inning.

Francis was named AL Pitcher of the Month for August when he went 4-1 with a 1.05 ERA, striking out 39 and walking four in six appearances, five starts.

There have been four no-hitters in the majors this season. The Chicago Cubs threw a no-no against Pittsburgh last Wednesday after Houston's Ronel Blanco pitched a complete game against Toronto on April 1, San Diego's Dylan Cease pitched a complete game against Washington on July 25 and San Francisco's Blake Snell pitched a complete game against Cincinnati on Aug. 2.

The Mets have gone eight times without a hit. The last pitcher to do so was Max Scherzer on October 3, 2015 against Washington.
