GMFB's Kyle Brandt delivers epic Mike Evans rant

As Bucs wide receiver Mike Evans embarks on what will hopefully be another great season where he reaches more NFL milestones, a lot of people are behind him. It seems that after years of being overlooked on a national level, Mike Evans is finally getting the attention and recognition he deserves. Part of that has to do with the Bucs' success over the past few years, but a lot is because of his achievements everyone Season.

We've now reached a point where many finally believe that Mike Evans should be inducted into the Hall of Fame right away.

And don't worry, Bucs fans, that's not going to happen anytime soon. The goalposts have been moved even further back as Evans enters a new conversation.

Kyle Brandt from NFL Network's Good Morning Football went on a fascinating rant in support of Mike Evans on the show Wednesday morning. He, like many others, believes Evans will be an instant Hall of Fame inductee, but Brandt goes so far as to call Evans the greatest Buccaneer of all time.

Those are bold words, but he had plenty of arguments to back them up. Here's a breakdown of his arguments.

Kyle Brandt has a keen interest in Mike Evans

“I think Mike Evans was a Hall of Famer a couple of years ago, I believe that,” Kyle Brandt began. “I think last season he became a Hall of Famer right off the bat, another 1,000-yard season, another playoff run, and I have to come to this conclusion – here's the conclusion: Mike Evans is the best Tampa Bay Buccaneer of all time. And I'll get into it, he is the one. We've got over a decade of dominance now, consistency, one of the best guys in any locker room.”

Brandt starts off by saying that Mike Evans is the best Buc in franchise history. He then lists some of his greatest achievements.

“Now you have to split hairs a little bit between the 'best' Buc of all time and the 'greatest' Buc of all time,” said Brandt. “Has a Buccaneer ever been better over a certain period of time? Maybe, but largest, That term, in my opinion, means skill, success, and dominance over a long period of time. As a football fan, you probably know the amazing stat of 10 consecutive years of over 1,000 yards receiving. But did you know that in many of those years he played every single game and never played less than 13 games in a regular season? Mike Evans' endurance is incredible.

“In a few weeks, he'll catch his 100th touchdown. There have been eight wide receivers in history who have reached 100, and every single one of them is in the Hall of Fame. Most of them were outright picks, or guys who should have been outright picks, like Terrell Owens, and guys who are going to make it, like Larry Fitzgerald.”

How do former Bucs players compare?

Of course, it would be worth considering who else is in that conversation, which all leads to Tampa Bay's first Super Bowl-winning team that featured Hall of Famers like Derrick Brooks, Warren Sapp, John Lynch and Ronde Barber. Brandt addresses that.

“I realize that as a fan, when I say the best Buccaneer of all time, you immediately think of four Bucs legends,” said Brandt. “Me too, believe me.” Brandt then names the Bucs already mentioned.

“To me, these guys are action figures, they're heroes,” he said. “I think any of these guys would openly admit that they were all on the same team, even on the same side of the ball, which was their greatness, and they played together in the greatest era of Bucs football, maybe the greatest era of defensive football ever. That was a hell of a group, and they won a lot.”

This is the difference for Evans:

“Mike Evans went 2-14, still good,” Brandt said. “He went 5-11, still good. Next year he went 5-11 again, still good. In just over 10 seasons, Mike Evans had four head coaches, six offensive coordinators, seven starting quarterbacks, and he was incredible and he was great in big games. In his very first playoff game in 2020, he rushed for 119 yards. In his last game against Detroit last year, he rushed for 147 yards and a touchdown. I think if you consider which current player on their current team is the best player in the history of their franchise, in my opinion it's Patrick Mahomes and Mike Evans.”

Another milestone season for Evans?

In summary, Brandt said, “He's big, he's fast, he's tough as hell, he never gets hurt, he's popular in the locker room and the community, and I believe Mike Evans is the best Tampa Bay Buccaneer of all time.”

Here is the video with all of Brandt’s words.

There are plenty of good arguments to be made in favor of Evans, and surely Bucs fans will make up their own minds about who they think is the best Bucs player in team history.

Evans began the season with five pass catches for 61 yards and two touchdowns as the Bucs won the season opener. He is just four touchdowns away from his 100th receiving score in his career, and another 1,000-yard season would tie him with Jerry Rice for the most consecutive 1,000-yard seasons in NFL history, while also extending his record for most consecutive 1,000-yard seasons to start a career.

Although he is a little further along in his NFL career, Evans still has a lot at stake – and the Bucs are also playoff contenders.
