“Some Like It Hot” at Proctors, 17-21 September

(September 12) Some like it hotthe “super-big, total singing and dancing spectacle!” (The New York Times), will be on the MainStage at Proctors in Schenectady in two weeks. Set in Chicago, where Prohibition leaves everyone thirsting for a little excitement. Some like it hot is the “magnificent, great, high-kicking” (Related Press) Story of two musicians who must flee the Windy City after witnessing a mafia robbery. With the mobsters hot on their heels, they board a train across the country to begin the exciting and life-changing journey of a lifetime.

And what a journey it is! With its irresistible combination of heart and laughter, song and dance, Some like it hot won more theater awards than any other show of its season and was named Best Musical by the Drama Desk, the Drama League, and the Outer Critics Circle. No wonder Deadline calls it a “tap-dancing, dazzling embrace of everything you love about musical theater.”

Some like it hot contains a book by Matthew Lopez (The legacy) and Amber Ruffin (“The Amber Ruffin Show”), music by Marc ShaimanText by Scott Wittman and Marc Shaiman (Hairspray) and direction and choreography by Casey Nicholas (The Book of Mormon). The musical is based on the classic MGM film Some like it hot which was named “the funniest American movie of all time” by the American Film Institute.

The creative team also includes Scott Pask (sentences), Greg Barnes (costumes), Natasha Katz (lights), Brian Ronan (Sound), Josh Marquette (Hair), Milagros Medina-Cerdeira (Form), Christian Borle and Joe Farrell (Additional material), Mary Mitchell Campbell – A Song for the Night (Musical Director), Kristy Norter (Music Coordinator), Charlie Rose And Bryan Carter (orchestrations), Marc Shaiman (vocal arrangements) and Glen Kelly (dance and stage music arrangements). The production team also includes Steve Bebout (Deputy Director), John MacInnis (Associate Choreographer) and Juniper Street Productions (Production management). 101 Productions, Ltd. acts as managing director.

Some like it hot was produced on Broadway by The Shubert Organization and Neil Meron, and co-produced by MGM on Stage, Roy Furman, Robert Greenblatt, James L. Nederlander, Kenny Leon, Hunter Arnold, John Gore Organization, The Dalgleish Library Company Group, Sheboygan Conservatory Partners, Ambassador Theatre Group Productions, Bob Boyett, Cue to Cue Productions, Janet and Marvin Rosen, The Araca Group, Concord Theatricals, Marc Howard, Independent Presenters Network, Juanita Jordan, Jujamcyn Theaters, Henry R. Concord Theatralicals Recordings released SOME LIKE IT HOT (Original Broadway Cast Recording)) will be released in March 2023 on streaming and digital platforms worldwide, now also available on CD and vinyl.
