Pollster Frank Luntz predicts Trump's election defeat after debate

Republican pollster Frank Luntz said former President Donald Trump's performance in the debate could cost him the election.

Before Tuesday's debate, Luntz had already said the winner of the debate would win the election, Piers Morgan said Wednesday when introducing Luntz on his show “Piers Morgan Uncensored.” Vice President Kamala Harris was widely declared the winner after she provoked Trump into angry, off-topic tirades.

Lutz made it clear that he thought Trump bore the burden of defeat in one of the worst debates he had ever seen in his career. After thinking long and hard about whether or not to make a prediction, Luntz said:

“The answer is yes, I think he loses because of his debate performance,” Luntz told Morgan.

Luntz: Trump's performance was “pessimistic, cynical, contemptuous”

Luntz pointed out that there are very few undecided voters left and that voters in the swing states have the greatest influence, namely about one percent of the American population.

“The entire campaign will be focused on this small part of the country, but they haven't heard anything from Trump that has given them a sense that anything will be different in the future,” Luntz said.

He also said Harris did not elaborate on her political plans and used a derogatory facial expression that damaged her message.

But Luntz blamed Trump for the loss because he spread unsubstantiated rumors that people in Ohio were eating pets and praised Hungary's prime minister, a far-right politician.

“I actually think that's pretty bad for the whole country. If that's the best that Democrats and Republicans can do, that's a pretty sad state of affairs for American democracy,” Luntz said.
