TV host erupts in angry tirade against Joe Burrow and condemns “nonsensical lie” about the Cincinnati Bengals quarterback

Fox TV host Nick Wright launched a passionate defense of Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow as fans claimed this could be “the end” for him.

Burrow has been the subject of intense speculation on social media over the past two days after a video surfaced of him battling a wrist injury.

While Burrow has since tried to allay concerns about his health, his fans claim that he may never be the same player he once was – something Wright strongly disagrees with.

In an angry retaliation on “First Things First” on Wednesday, Wright said, “I found Joe Burrow's comments over the last 72 hours to be borderline hysterical and completely ridiculous. Where is that energy for Joe that we have for Lamar? [Jackson]that we have for Josh Allen?

“Joe Burrow is a spectacular quarterback and his only weakness when he's healthy is that he's a little limited physically. He doesn't have the strongest arm, he's not the most agile, he's not the strongest. He can play at a super-high level, although he's probably about league average in terms of measurables.

“That's why he looks terrible when he's not anywhere near 100%. His calf is a little bit so he can't play well. If his wrist is really still injured, you'll notice.”

“But the idea spread on the Internet and by other talk show hosts that he has been bad for two years is a lie. That's nonsense!”

Wright then reflected on his previous opinions on Burrow, who entered the league as the No. 1 overall pick out of LSU in 2020.

Since then, he has played four seasons in the NFL and is entering his fifth year with the Bengals with many question marks looming over him.

“We talked about this on this show last year. He injured his wrist before the game. Could he be named the league's most valuable player?” Wright continued.

“In weeks five through nine, he looked like the best quarterback of the year. That came after a two-year stretch where he was the second-best quarterback of the year.

“We saw Joe Burrow win in important situations and play great in important situations. We saw him go into Josh Allen's house and outplay him. We saw Joe Burrow have two playoff runs that were better than any of Lamar's single playoff runs.

“Look, am I worried about him? If his wrist is really still hurt, he's not going to be good. Do I think we overestimated Joe Burrow? Do I think, 'Oh, it's time for the receipts for Joe Burrow.'” I think people are idiots.

“I think he's clearly one of the best quarterbacks in the league and has been for four years.”

In September 2023, Burrow signed a five-year contract extension worth $275 million. With an annual income of $55 million, he is the highest-paid player in NFL history.
