Three threats within three days at Kellenberg High School raise concern among parents and students

According to an email sent to parents, Kellenberg High School received three threats within three days.

Thursday's threat came in around 2 p.m. Students were told to stay at school. Nassau County police responded to the school and searched the building. A police spokesman said the threats were unfounded.

Kellenberg's threats put a spotlight on a growing problem on Long Island.

Police were at Stimson Middle School in Huntington Station after threats were made against students.

Police also responded to Bellport Middle School after a student reportedly said he had a gun.

The incident at Bellport Middle School was a false alarm.

Police are investigating threats at Stimson Middle School.

John LaPlaca of Altaris Consulting Group, a security expert who has worked with school districts on Long Island, said it is common for there to be copycat threats, some from other countries, after mass shootings like the one at Apalachee High School in Georgia on Sept. 4.

He explained: “When law enforcement investigates and traces IP addresses, they find that they actually originate from abroad.”

He added: “The intention is to cause disruption and alarm.”
