2024 Azerbaijan Grand Prix FP1 report and highlights: Max Verstappen is fastest while Charles Leclerc and Franco Colapinto crash in an interrupted session

Lance Stroll seemed very unhappy with the balance of his Aston Martin. The Canadian once said: “This is not a car, this is not a car at the moment.” He finished in 13th place.

Sauber's Valtteri Bottas was slightly behind at the start of the session, but no damage was done and he finished the session in 14th place, ahead of Tsunoda. The second Sauber of Zhou Guanyu could not achieve a representative time, coming in 19th.

Franco Colapinto, who was competing in only his second FP2 session, showed impressive speed, but the Williams driver failed to get the throttle right at Turn 4 and slid into the wall, prompting the third red flag (the first to clear debris, the second to clear Leclerc's damaged Ferrari and repair the barrier).

Colapinto was classified 16th, a small lead over Alex Albon, who had a small slip on the turn 4 siding but managed to get out of the barrier.

It was not a good day for Alpine: Pierre Gasly dropped to 18th place, while Esteban Ocon had to top the timesheets because he failed to complete a timed lap.

The Frenchman reported a loss of power early on and although he recovered by the time he reached the pits, his session was ended early as Alpine investigated the problem.
