Ryan Tannehill, best free agent QB available, is waiting for the right opportunity to join his team

According to sources, Tannehill has been throwing to local receivers and is in shape, but he will wait patiently for the right opportunity, if it ever comes along.

Tannehill has earned $195 million over the course of his 11-season career, but money would still play a role in his decision.

Tannehill witnessed firsthand how a veteran off the street was signed by a team that needed a quarterback.

He was the Dolphins' starting quarterback when he tore his ACL in 2017, after which the team signed Jay Cutler to a one-year deal worth up to $13 million. Translated into today's world, when the salary cap is now at $255.4 million, Cutler's contract should serve as a comparison for a potential deal with Tannehill.

Last year, there were more than two dozen backup QBs in the starting lineup. If a playoff-ready team loses a QB for an extended period of time, Tannehill will definitely be called upon.

He recently appeared on The Athletic's “Scoop City” podcast and said he won't play just to stay an extra year. That has to be true.

“Maybe a player goes down and a team calls me. You never know what's going to happen, right?” Tannehill said in July. “So I'm just keeping my options open. But at the same time, I'm not waiting on pins and needles for the call. I'm enjoying where I am… where my family is, my life. You know, when something happens, it's awesome. I throw myself into it with all my heart. But at the same time, I'm not just waiting for it.”
