Landry Shamet agrees to contract with the Knicks

Free agent guard Landry Shamet agreed a one-year contract with the Curtsysaid Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN (Twitter link). The 27-year-old Shamet has played in six NBA seasons with the Sixers, Clippers, Nets, Suns and Wizards.

It is unclear exactly what kind of contract Shamet is signing with the Knicks, but I would be a little surprised if it was guaranteed. New York signed Chuma Okeke to a non-guaranteed one-year deal at the start of this season. Shamet, Okeke and perhaps other players appear ready to fight for New York's final starting spot on the 15-man roster.

Shamet has 348 games of NBA experience after being selected 26th overall by Philadelphia in 2018. The Wichita State product has a career 38.4% three-point shooting percentage and averages 4.9 attempts per game. He has also averaged 8.7 points and 1.7 rebounds and has made 97 career starts.

He has been involved in several blockbuster trades throughout his career. In his rookie season, he was part of the trade that brought Tobias Harris to Philadelphia. The following year, he moved to the Bruce Brown. Then, in 2023, he was part of the trade that Bradley Beal to Philadelphia.

The Knicks have 14 players with standard guaranteed contracts. Kevin McCullar, Ariel Hukporti And Jacob Toppin hold two-way deals, while Okeke and Alex O’Connell have training camp contracts. Shamet appears to belong to the latter group.
