REPORT: Knicks sign winger Landry Shamet for one year

With Jalen Brunson, Josh Hart, Donte DiVincenzo and Mikal Bridges on the roster, everyone assumed that former New York Knicks fan favorite Ryan Arcidiacono would return to complete the Nova Knicks. Those hopes were dashed early in the morning of September 14, when Adrian Wojnarowski first reported that the Knicks have signed veteran winger Landry Shamet to fill their 15th and final guaranteed roster spot.

Shamet came into the league as a shooter and carved out a solid spot on the bench for rivals like the Sixers, Clippers, Nets and Suns over his first five seasons. During that time, the shooting guard averaged 8.9 PPG and shot 39% from the three-point line on 5.2 3PA per game.

Last season was a different story for Shamet. After averaging 22.9 MPG before 2023, he averaged just 15.8 MPG and appeared in just 46 games. And even when he stayed on the court, his play suffered, as he shot a career-low 33.8% from the three-point line.

Those numbers are admittedly a little concerning. But as a backup player on a very strong team, he shouldn't be relied on too much, if at all. And since he's only 27 years old but has plenty of experience playing on contending teams, the move makes a lot of sense, both for the Knicks as a microwave pitcher and as a potential trade piece for the future.
