After the end of their long winning streak, German football champions Bayer Leverkusen have come back with a win. The Werkself, who had recently suffered their first defeat in 35 league games, won 4-1 (2-1) against TSG Hoffenheim on the third matchday and now have six points. Vice champions VfB Stuttgart were also successful, celebrating their first win with a 3-1 (1-1) victory against Borussia Mönchengladbach. Both clubs have thus successfully completed their dress rehearsal for their upcoming Champions League tasks.

Meanwhile, RB Leipzig missed out on their third win in three games with a 0:0 draw against Union Berlin. Suspended coach Marco Rose had to watch from the stands as Lois Openda missed a possible win with a penalty (74th minute). Borussia Dortmund remains top of the table. BVB won 4:2 against 1. FC Heidenheim on Friday.

Eintracht Frankfurt secured their second win of the season with a 2-1 (1-0) win over VfL Wolfsburg. The same goes for SC Freiburg, who turned the game around after trailing 0-1 at half-time and won 2-1 (0-1) against winless bottom-placed VfL Bochum.

Bonifatius the match winner for Leverkusen

In Hoffenheim, Victor Bonifatius became the match winner for Leverkusen. The Nigerian provided the assist for Martin Terrier's first goal (17th minute), and scored the second and fourth goals himself (30th and 75th). National player Florian Wirtz also scored from the penalty spot (72nd). For Hoffenheim, where goalkeeper Oliver Baumann drew level with football greats Lothar Matthäus and Toni Schumacher with his 464th Bundesliga game, Mergim Berisha was able to shorten the deficit (37th).

In Gladbach, Ermedin Demirovic scored two goals to secure the VfB victory (57th and 61st). After Stuttgart's first lead through Deniz Undav (21st), who also scored for the national team for the first time on Tuesday, Alassane Plea equalized for Borussia (27th). The game was also marked by the 80th birthday of Borussia legend Günter Netzer, who was not in the stadium.

Trapp injured his thigh

The two Frankfurt goals were scored by Omar Marmoush, who has been outstanding for weeks (30th and 82nd per trading meter). Ridle Baku had equalized for the hosts in the meantime (76th). However, Eintracht may have to do without goalkeeper Kevin Trapp for the time being, who had to leave the game at half-time with a thigh injury. This meant that Brazilian goalkeeper Kaua Santos made his Bundesliga debut.

Despite the opening goal by Monaco newcomer Myron Boadu (45th minute), Bochum suffered their third defeat in three games in Freiburg. Junior Adamu managed to turn things around with a brace (58th and 61st minute).
