According to reports, the Lakers are the favorites to sign a promising young talent

Roughly two and a half months after the NBA Draft, the Los Angeles Lakers still haven't signed or traded a single player from another team. This has led to the perception, whether it's true or not, that no one of real value wants to play for them these days.

One by one, all of their free agent targets, from Klay Thompson to DeMar DeRozan, turned down. In fact, Jonas Valanciunas, a center they were reportedly very interested in, turned them down in favor of the Washington Wizards, a team that won just 15 games last season.

However, with about two weeks to go before training camp begins, the Lakers are reportedly favorites to sign center Christian Koloko, a second-round pick in 2020.

Koloko, who is 6-foot-4 and 225 pounds, averaged 3.1 points, 2.9 rebounds and 1.0 blocked shots in 13.8 minutes per game as a rookie, but missed the entire season last season after suffering from a severe blood clot.

While growing up in Cameroon, he played his final season of high school basketball at Sierra Canyon School, the same school in the San Fernando Valley where Bronny James spent time.

The center position is one of the Lakers' biggest weaknesses. While Koloko isn't the answer to that gap, he does have a 7'10″ wingspan. NBADraft.net called him a “fluid athlete for his size” who “can cover huge distances” and “usually looks to dunk the ball with authority from close range.”

It should be noted that LA currently has a full roster, so if they wanted to sign Koloko on a standard contract, they would have to clear a spot on the roster somehow.
