Rolly Romero is not worried after a “bad evening” Manuel Jaimes

LAS VEGAS – Nearly six months after his humiliating TKO loss in the title fight against Isaac “Pitbull” Cruz, Rolando “Rolly” Romero calls his defeat a “bad night.”

“Just because I had a bad night doesn't mean anything,” Romero told BoxingScene on Thursday before a press conference announcing his comeback fight Saturday night against Manuel Jaimes (16-1-1), which will open the pay-per-view portion of the Saul “Canelo” Alvarez-Edgar Berlanga card (Amazon Prime Video, PPV.com) at T-Mobile Arena.

Romero (15-2, 13 KOs) maintained the confident demeanor that defined his rise to WBA middleweight title, saying: “I don’t know anything about [Jaimes]. Nothing. For me it's just another night.”

Romero told anchor Ray Flores that he came to the press conference straight from bed wearing a black bathrobe with white stripes.

“I always look good no matter what,” Romero said. “But I missed boxing and I'm glad to be back.”

Where was he?

“I only watch Bruce Lee movies,” Romero said.

Since Romero's loss in March, Cruz has also dropped his belt to new WBA light heavyweight titleholder Jose “Rayo” Valenzuela.

Romero says he is not worried about whether he can win a belt again next year.

“The belts come back. I mean, how many four-time champions are there?” Romero said. “You lose your belt, move up, get another belt. That's normal. I'm clearly an elite fighter. I'm the hardest hitter in my weight class.”

Who does he want to face in the revamped division, whose champions include Valenzuela, Alberto Puello, Liam Paro and Teofimo Lopez Jr.?

“I'm not interested in that right now,” Romero said. “Who knows? Maybe I'll stay here, move up to 147 or move up to 154. I'm tall.”
