Hugh Freeze on Auburn's problems with New Mexico: “Very sloppy”

Hugh Freeze had only one word to describe his Auburn defense: sloppy.

New Mexico managed 366 yards of offense and a touchdown in the first three quarters, but trailed 31-13.

“We had two good possessions offensively,” Freeze said. “We were sloppy defensively. Really sloppy.”

“We need to play better on defense, but I think the two offensive plays were really efficient. We were hoping to get the ball back and we sank it.”

As if to underscore Freeze's point, Auburn's defense, on cue, committed a personal foul before New Mexico scored its second touchdown of the game.

“We're doing some not very smart things football-wise that we need to correct,” Freeze said.

The Tigers, who committed eight penalties for 83 yards, led 31-19 after New Mexico's second touchdown.
