Marcus Trescothick believes Jos Buttler has the leadership qualities to be England captain and admits he does not expect his position to change any time soon

The three-match England-Australia T20I, currently tied 1-1, concludes at Emirates Old Trafford in Manchester on Sunday, followed by the first of five ODIs, which begins at Trent Bridge in Nottingham on Thursday.

England's white ball team has been very successful in recent years but is suffering from a slump. The recent defence of the ODI World Cup and the T20 World Cup were low points for Buttler's team.

England's new head coach for the limited overs Brendan McCullum is ready to “freshen up” the team with available talent when he officially takes over in January, but also wants to ensure that key leaders stay in place.

Brendon McCullum says he is very confident about Jos Buttler's position as captain of the white ball and wants him to enjoy playing for England again

Buttler is part of these plans.

“I think Jos has had an incredible career. If he retired tomorrow he would go down in history as arguably the best player England has ever had,” said McCullum Sky Sports Beginning of the month.

Manchester Originals Men head coach Simon Katich says if captain Jos Buttler misses The Hundred with a calf injury, it is a chance for other players to shine

“He doesn’t have to prove anything anymore.

“I want him to get into a position over the next few years where he's not trying to defend anything. He just goes out there and loves playing for England, loves leading the Whites team and is able to get the best out of the talent around him.

“It is my responsibility to continue to push him in this direction and to reinforce this message to him again and again.

“Hopefully he will recover from his injuries soon.”
