John Leguizamo says Trump suffers from 'immigration Tourette' after ranting about migrants eating cats and dogs

John Leguizamo stopped by “The Daily Show” on Thursday to analyze the Republican-backed SAVE Act — and, of course, to call out Donald Trump for several troubling comments this week about the Latino community.

As he dove headfirst into Tuesday night's presidential debate with Vice President Kamala Harris, Leguizamo joked that Trump had “immigration Tourette's” because even when he wasn't being asked about immigration, he found a way to bring up the subject, particularly in light of his tirade about Haitian immigrants in Ohio eating their neighbors' cats and dogs.

“If you watched the debate this week, you should know that Trump said a lot of crap about Latinos and immigration. Even when he wasn't asked about immigration!” Leguizamo said. He then showed a clip in which Trump was asked about the economy and replied: “We have millions of people flooding into the country.”

“Great answer on the economy, asshole,” Leguizamo said dryly. “You really hit the nail on the head. It's like this guy has immigration Tourette's syndrome or something.”

The comedian then addressed a hypothetical situation in which Trump orders fast food: “'Would you like fries with that, sir?' You know what I don't want? I don't want immigrants eating our beautiful cats and dogs!”

At this point, Leguizamo turned to the SAVE Act, emphasizing, “Today, Republicans are not only stoking fear that immigrants are committing crimes and eating our pets, they are also claiming that immigrants are sneaking into our American elections.”

The Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act is a supposed election integrity bill that requires registered voters to provide proof of citizenship and forces states to remove non-citizens from their eligible voter rolls. Many prominent Republicans support the bill, including Rep. Lauren Boebert of Colorado, Leguizamo showed in a clip from the House chamber.

“Joe Biden and his regime are handing out welfare payments to illegal immigrants like Oprah Winfrey on her show – everyone has a voice!” she said.

“You're right, Lauren Boebert. You're right,” Leguizamo replied sarcastically. “You can't just give away votes. This isn't like a handjob in a 'Beetlejuice' musical.”

The guest moderator then explained that the SAVE Act is being portrayed as an attempt to protect the electorate, while in reality it is aimed at suppressing the Latino vote.

“The data shows that noncitizen immigrants never vote,” he said. “And why should they? Who would risk going to jail or being deported just because of an 'I voted' sticker?”
