The sequel to Red, White & Royal Blue receives a major update

Attention Red, white and royal blue Fans! A major new update for the highly anticipated sequel is here.

In a recent interview with diversityArrow Creator Greg Berlanti was asked about the status of the sequel, which Officially confirmed at the beginning of the year.

Although he remained silent about the plot of the upcoming film, he confirmed that director Matthew López and author Casey McQuiston – who wrote the original novel – are almost finished with the script.

“The great thing is that it feels like the natural next step in these characters' journey,” he added.

The Red, white and royal blue The film first delighted LGBTQIA+ fans in August 2023 when it was released on Prime Video.

Starring Taylor Zakhar Perez as Alex Claremont-Diaz and Nicholas Galitzine as Prince Henry, the film follows the passionate romance between the charismatic son of the first American female president (Uma Thurman) and a dashing British prince as they go from enemies to lovers.

The film also stars Clifton Collins Jr., Sarah Shahi, Rachel Hilson, Stephen Fry, Ellie Bamber, Thomas Flynn, Malcolm Atobrah, Akshay Khanna, Sharon D Clarke, Aneesh Sheth and Juan Castano.

Upon its release, the romantic comedy received widespread acclaim for its faithfulness to the source material and the electrifying chemistry between Zakhar-Perez and Galitzine.

In addition to enthusiastic reviews, Red, white and royal blue receive numerous award nominations, including a Primetime Emmy nomination for Outstanding Television Movie.

In May, after months of outcry and speculation among fans, Prime Video, López and McQuiston caused a stir online when they announced that a sequel was in the works.

“Yes, there will be a sequel,” the American playwright exclaimed during a fan screening.

During a panel discussion in August for Deadline's Contenders TV: The NomineesLópez gave insight into his and McQuiston’s creative process.

“When we started this process, I kept saying that we had to succeed in this adaptation… if you end up feeling the same way you did when you finished the book,” he said.

“There is no book to guide us, just Casey’s original thoughts and ideas.”

In the same interview, Perez expressed his enthusiasm for the film and once again took on the role of First Son Alex.

“He is constantly flooded with a never-ending waterfall of optimism and is just constantly positive,” he raved.

“I think I'm looking forward to bringing that back to the screen. And I think [with the] Given the current state of the world, we could use a little more of that.”
