A total of five women and one man were injured on August 5. The 44-year-old had deliberately driven his car at high speed towards women in Cologne's old town, two of whom were seriously injured and two of whom were slightly injured, police and prosecutors said.

He is said to have previously seriously injured a 50-year-old woman in Essen while driving a taxi.
